SUMMARY:"Fracking the System" Film Screening - Ozone Alert Series
DESCRIPTION:Fracking the System is a political thriller documentary from the front lines of climate justice activism in Colorado\, exposing the harms of fracking\, the lengths to which the government is complicit with industrial pollution\, and the nefarious tactics the oil and gas industry uses to undermine democratic elections. \nCome view this important film which gets at the root of our poor air quality issues in Northern Colorado\, as well as the dirty politics behind the continued staying power of the fossil fuel industry in the face of global climate change and those local impacts. The screening will take place on Thursday\, June 13 at 5:30 PM in the Old Town Public Library in Fort Collins. A brief discussion with local activists will follow the screening. \nThis will be the first in the Larimer Alliance Ozone Alert Series. Details of another public forum at the Old Town Library discussing these issues June 27 will be announced after the screening. \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:The Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Reduction Steering Committee will begin meeting in March 2024. The members committed to holding meetings once a month for at least six months. During these meetings\, members engage in technical discussions on potential strategies to reduce NOx pollution. The focus is on reducing NOx emissions from oil and gas exploration and production processes in areas of Colorado that do not meet federal ozone pollution standards. \nIn addition to the steering committee‘s monthly technical meetings\, the division will host two public meetings\, in the summer and fall of 2024. \nSteering committee meetings are held virtually. SUMMARY:A DAY OF ACTION TO STOP THE UINTA BASIN RAILROAD\, AUG. 26
DESCRIPTION:The Uinta Basin Railway (UBR) proposal would enable the transport of over 400\,000 barrels of heated waxy crude oil by rail from Utah through Colorado on existing rail line that runs through Glenwood Canyon and along the Colorado River.  From there\, the oil train would pass through Denver and south to Pueblo\, endangering many communities along the way.  \nConstructing the 88 new miles of railway for this project in Utah would do permanent damage to 10\,000 acres of land designated as wilderness/roadless\, blast 3 new tunnels\, affect 400 streams and disrupt endangered wildlife habitat..  This new rail system (with 10\,000 foot long oil trains) would allow 4 times the current amount of tar sands crude oil to reach markets\, resulting in increased oil production\, drilling 3330 new wells\, and more oil use (6 coal plants’ yearly carbon emissions).  If you want to help in the last-ditch attempts to prevent this already federally approved plan\, please keep reading below and take ALL of these actions today! \nThis event will start at 10:00 AM\, but its end time is fluid given the nature of the planned activities.
